Dudley Chelton, oceanographer and remote sensing pioneer, has won the 2010 Cody Award from Scripps Oceanography. He will present a public lecture, "The Oceans Viewed from Space," on June 11 in La Jolla.

Ships can feel seaquakes and tsunamis depending on their location. Near coastlines, tsunamis can be destructive, but in deep ocean, they're often undetectable. Earthquakes can also send shockwaves that violently shake ships.
