CARICOOS and partners are studying La Parguera's coral reef vulnerability to ocean acidification. Early data shows nearshore waters may face greater risk of coral weakening due to higher CO₂ and acidity fluctuations, especially near mangroves.

Juan González and Patricia Chardón return to CARICOOS as postdoctoral researcher and observing system engineer after earning PhDs in environmental fluid dynamics and coastal engineering. Both will support modeling and observation efforts.

CARICOOS, UPRM, and UNH recovered the CO2/acidification buoy at Cayo Enrique, La Parguera. The buoy, crucial to NOAA-funded ocean acidification monitoring, will undergo maintenance and calibration in the coming weeks.
